How to show up in AI search, not just Google

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI Overviews instead of scrolling links. Here is how to be the answer.

Being found used to mean ranking on Google. Now it also means being the answer an AI hands back when someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, or Google's AI Overviews. The good news is that most of what helps you in AI search helps you in classic search too.

25%

the predicted fall in traditional search engine volume by 2026 as people shift to AI chatbots and assistants. The way customers find you is changing, fast.

Get the classic SEO basics right

  • Clean, semantic, fast-loading pages, because speed still wins
  • Structured data and a sitemap so engines understand every page
  • Google Search Console and analytics, so you can see what ranks and fix what does not
  • Clear titles, metadata, and internal links across the site

Then write for the way AI reads

AI models quote content that is clear, well-structured, and confident. Answer real questions directly, lay out plain facts an AI can lift, and keep your information consistent across the site so the model trusts and cites you. A short, honest answer near the top of a page often beats a long preamble.

Help machines as well as people

Structured data, a clean sitemap, and a simple llms.txt file give AI crawlers a tidy summary of who you are and what you offer. None of it is a trick. It is just making your site easy to understand, which is the same thing good SEO has always rewarded.

Build the basics in from the first line of code and you show up for both: the people scrolling links and the ones asking an AI.
